Local Resources

A list of some helpful local resources while you are in town!

Restaurants

  • Vern's Place
    • Very close to the wedding location, simple diner food and coffee.
    • Google Map
  • Spoons
    • Downtown and Campus locations, plenty of vegan and vegetarian options for cheap!
  • Pueblo Viejo
    • Nice spot for mexican food in downtown
  • Coopersmiths
    • Only one of the breweries that has a full food menu as well. They make their own root beer and have a pool hall too.

Breweries

  • New Belgium (the oldest and largest of the craft breweries, tastings are free but expect a wait) - you can also mail their postcard/coasters from here, so bring addresses of loved ones!
  • Odells (likely favorite with the locals, small fee for tasting that turns into a coupon for the gift shop)
  • Fort Collins Brewery (perhaps the more adventurous of the flavors here, but also loved - small fee for tastings)
  • Funkwerks (the newest addition! Unknown territory)
  • Really, the best option is to travel by bike. But failing that, make sure you have a designated driver! Colorado is high altitude, and with that, lower alcohol tolerance if you're not here year-round.
  • If you're not a beer drinker, hit this stop nearby for delicious martinis.

Attractions & Entertainment

  • Bike trails galore - these go all the way out to LaPorte along the Cache La Poudre River to a frisbee golf course behind Cache La Poudre Middle School. The frisbee golf course is also very close (walking/biking distance) to the wedding.
  • The Poudre Canyon - fishing, hiking, camping, picnicking, rafting all possible here.
  • Fireworks in City Park - held July 4th, 2011.
  • Lyric Cinema Cafe - an independent movie theatre owned by a high school classmate of Sam & Madalene's.
  • Downtown Farmers Market - a great place to find local foods and browse the booths.
  • Old Town is a great place to walk around in the summer. Full of local businesses and frequent live music, it's a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.
  • Annual Flower Trial Garden - This garden, located just south of downtown is packed with flowers that are being tested in northern Colorado's climate and soil conditions. It's a great way to see what works well here and to just check out a cool garden.
  • Watson Lake and the Fish Hatchery - Here you can walk along the Poudre River, go fishing in the well-stocked Watson Lake, or even feed the fish at the attached fish hatchery (they're quick and hungry for the handfuls of fish food you can buy)! This is within walking/biking distance of the wedding, but also has plenty of parking space.
  • This list gives an idea every few days of something to do in Fort Collins - though it is not actually 365 items yet.
