FAQ

What can I expect at the wedding site?

The wedding is outdoors - so while we love to have everyone dress up, do what is most comfortable for you (including bringing a second pair of shoes if that's easiest). There will be shade at the reception, but sunscreen may come in handy.

How formal is the wedding?

Sam and Madalene will be formally dressed, not unlike Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Guests are invited to dress semi-formal - suits, slacks, skirts and dresses are all appropriate. The theme of the wedding is the 1930s - so if you are excited about it, we'd love to see you representing the glamour of the decade as you see fit! If not, you still should feel at home. Our Costume Resources page has links to websites about 1930's fashion and resources, if you need some ideas.

Why a 1930s wedding?

There certainly are some parallels to our current economy with what happened in the 1930s. At that time, people used the movies to escape from the hardships - so we are taking inspiration from a favorite of Madalene's, movies featuring Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Also, it was a time of making do with what you had: gardening, canning, learning how to make the things you need and repairing what you already have - all skills we treasure as community gardeners, cooks (Sam), soda brewers (Madalene), and makers of projects in general. Ask your grandparents for their ideas!

What all is planned for the evening?

We are fortunate to have Madalene's family property for the location, the home of Robert Fetsch and Lu Benke. The wedding ceremony will be in the evening, followed by cocktails, lawn games, dinner and dancing into the night. If you are staying at a local hotel, consider carpooling with other guests to make travel back and forth easier (it is about 15-20 minutes from the hotels listed here to the location).

I have specific meal needs - how can I make sure the menu is compatible?

Please email us directly at info@samandmadalene.com.

Will the location be handicap accessible?

Yes - ramps and bridges will be available to make traversing the land easier. Please contact us at info@samandmadalene.com if you have specific needs you are concerned about, we want everyone to be comfortable.
